A Registered Nurse that specializes in labor and delivery seems to be the perfect job for me. I’ve always wanted to help others and in some weird way, helping others seems to somehow help me refresh my soul. The fact that I’m playing an important role in someone’s health brightens my day. I love babies; I absolutely adore them and so that’s why I’m working in an area that focuses on labor and delivery. For as long as I can remember I’ve always wanted to be a nurse. I can remember my elementary teachers asking me what I wanted to be, and through every grade my reply was the same…a nurse. Where as my classmates who wanted to be Teachers changed to Astronauts and later changed to Lawyers. I kept my idea; I just love the feeling I get when I help someone.
Being a RN is not simple work; it’s actually very demanding and very stressful. A registered nurse assesses each patient’s health status; while also recording how a patient reacts to their treatment. They must collaborate with the patient, the family, the physicians, and other health care professionals. They must build a trust with their patients, make every patient feel as they’re the most important patient in the whole building. If the nurse fails to provide a trust, that could patients even more uncomfortable in their conditions. It is very common for a Registered Nurse to train themselves to manage pain, maximize independence, strengthen strategies in emergency situations, and being able to communicate with each patient easily. In addition, a Registered Nurse administers, monitors, and educates about medications.
The tasks a Registered Nurse may be required to complete can become very stressful. It can involve a great number of tasks. The tasks can be anything as simple as educating the patients of their medical conditions and answering phone calls of people with medical questions; to raising the stress level with things such as checking ECG's, applying vaccinations wound dressing, giving blood tests for sugar levels and pregnancy, taking blood for laboratory testing, and checking patient's blood pressure. The nurse may also deal with medical "behind the scene" tasks with things ordering stock, rotating the drugs that have expired, and monitoring refrigeration temperatures of vaccines.
To become a successful Registered Nurse one must have the skill of communication. You have to be able to communicate with a lot of different age groups, a lot of different ethnic backgrounds, a lot of cultural differences. You, as the nurse, must figure out a way to be able to talk to your patients and assess what level of understanding they might have about things that they need to know. At the same time the Nurse must be able to express the ability to communicate on a professional level with the Doctors, reception staff, and pharmacists with whom they will have much interaction. Believe it or not a workplace that has a good atmosphere helps keep the employers on a good beat. Being able to communicate with your co-workers can be the huge difference between a good and bad day. Lack of communication can cause tension and make something so simply become so hectic. Without communication there would be no teamwork, and you can imagine how a hospital with staff that doesn’t have teamwork may operate!
I have the skill of communication down pack. I have the ability to listen to others and if I feel that their opinions are wrong, express my thoughts and feelings in a way that their opinions doesn’t feel disrespected. I have an audible voice that is a necessity, and I feel I can make someone smile even when they have heard bad news. I am a people person, I love interacting with people, I love seeing smiles and hearing sincere thank you’s. I also believe that I work more efficiently under stress, so having a lot of tasks would be no problem for me. I need something in my day that will keep my body moving and will constantly have me active. I’d rather be around people twenty-four hours of the day than be by myself.
All nurses must have graduated from high school. They must graduate from an approved nursing education program. These programs can be anywhere from the two-year associate’s degree, the three-year diploma (programs associated with hospitals) or the four-year baccalaureate. Community service can also be a great entry on your resume. Some hospitals even let students volunteer at the hospital while they are still attending their college to get their degree.
The schooling doesn’t take that long to complete and so that factor help makes my decision to become a RN much easier. I like school, but only because it’s a necessity. A school that only takes three years at the maximum to complete is ideal for me. For as long as I can remember I’ve always wanted to be a nurse. I can remember my elementary teachers asking me what I wanted to be, and through every grade my reply was the same and it still is!

Romanticism
The story I chose was Rip Van Winkle. It was funny to me, it made me wondered what would life be like if I was to fall asleep for twenty years. It was confusing at first and I couldn’t really get into the story but around the chapter when he first woke up looking for his dog and his gun it became very exciting and interesting. I like how the story described how the villagers all glanced at him and how confused he felt.
When he returned home the story became very descriptive and I could actually picture the town in my head. I could actually envision how different the town appeared. And I could feel his sense of confusion. When he started talking about how his wife usually kept the house clean, I pictured a spotless little hut and then I switched my vision to see his run downed house. I think the story was creative and it left me pondering about the future.
I think this Rip Van Winkle showed Romanticism by how he would rather do for other people than he would do for himself. That proves that he believed it was better to help someone than just help yourself. Even when his wife constantly nagged at him for not taken care of himself, he stilled provided for others. "His wife kept continually dinning in his ears about his idleness, his carelessness, and the ruin he was bringing on his family. Morning, noon, and night, her tongue was incessantly going, and every thing he said or did was sure to produce a torrent of household eloquence".
He took care of neighbors and helped fix up their yards when his own yard would be covered with weeds. He would play with the kids in the village and helped them fix broken toys when his own kids would look wore than the others. He spent more time helping out the people and making sure they were doing okay rather than his own family. Whenever his wife would bring this to his attention he would shrug his shoulders and continue on about his day. "Children of the village, too, would shout with joy whenever he approached. He assisted at their sports, made their playthings, taught them to fly kites and shoot marbles, and told them long stories of ghosts, while his children, were as ragged and wild as if they belonged to nobody."
I think the poem is obviously talking about death. It tells how "nature" will call you to your sleeping place. And how you would lay with all the great kings and everyone else whom you probably admired that has passed on. It shields a light on eternal resting-place, it shows all the good things about passing on. It shows how the how your body goes back to becoming one with the earth I believe that’s the decomposing part of death. What makes this poem romantic is that the theme of nature is involved and it shows the feelings associated with death.
The poem was about him at work. He seems like he doesn’t want to be there, so while he works he looks around and notices all the things going on. He sees people playing around and he sees a little boy with his kite. And I think by him looking around and noticing other people it helps him get through his boring day at work.
This picture seems to bring out tranquility, it just calms you down just by looking at it. The setting looks peaceful and the lake seems to be calm and the skies are golden. It seems to show that there’s a better place in the skies rather than here on earth.
Romanticism is the idea that intuition is over logic. Romantics believed imagination is higher than reason and logic. They felt people could find themselves by listening to their hearts, or using their imaginations to reach better places than where they were physically. They felt as if life would be much better if people wee involved with their adventurous sides. The poems above fits this belief by just explaining how life would be better by going to heaven when you pass on
"so live, that when thy summons comes to join
The innumerable caravan, that moves.
To the pale realms of shade, where each shall take
His chamber in the silent halls of death, Thou go not, like the quarry-slave at night, scourged to his dungeon, but sustain'd and sooth'd Like one who wraps the drapery of his couch About him, and lies down to pleasant dreams."
This excerpt just explained that you should live life to the fullest, and that when you finally die you should not go scorned and mad as if you were going to a dungeon; but you should be happy because your finally going to be able to sleep peacefully and happily. This belief shows the romanticism belief by providing a thought that would keep you somewhat peaceful at your soul.

Another Day....
Leslie-Ann McMaster
Writing 2 (Descriptive Writing)
It was a cold day. The trees seemed to bend over in agony as the wind whipped through the air. My face was frozen, numb as ever. My caramel-colored cheeks were exposing tints of red. My lips were dry and cracked, and my teeth chattered so hard that I thought they were all going to fall out of my mouth all at once. I wrapped my bright green jacket closer to my body and continued to walk towards the bus stop. I hear loud thumping, I recognize the beat, its Fergie’s "Fergalicious", the all time oldie beat of "Super Sonic" mixed with modern day tempo of hip-hop. I turned around to see the approaching car playing my favorite track. It was an old car, the paint was a bright yellow, and the bumper hung so low that it was about an inch from scrubbing the road. It sped on by blowing fog out of the back pipe. I sighed loudly in distress as I pictured the driver all content and warm in the blaring heat listening to Fergie. I continued my walk and started to hum to the beat.
As I looked to the left, I saw a lovebird, sitting high in a tree. The bird chirped and fluttered its bright red wings. I quickly rose my frozen hand and blew it a kiss just as it was flying away. I remember my older cousin telling me whenever I saw a love bird if I blew a kiss at it before it left I would find my true love. I smiled so hard at my memory that my cracked lips started to bleed. I squished my face up in pain and ran my tongue across the opening, instantly the taste of metal flowed onto my taste buds. This time I squished my face in disgust. I wondered if the lovebird really worked. If this little bird, totally unaware of my existence, would really help me find my special one. I smirked at the idea of how foolish that thought was. It seemed as if this bird was believed to have certain powers only because his body was a bright red. That was the most absurd thing I’ve ever heard of, much less believed. As I turned my head back to the road ahead of me, I saw the bus. I gasped and started running flailing my hands about. I felt stupid, and so imagined I looked stupid. I kept picturing the bus driver waiting until I got close enough and then pulling off in my face.
"Wait! Please wait! I’m coming, I’m coming!" my chest burned in pain as I ran as fast as my legs would take me. I guess someone must have seen me because the bus sat there and waited on me. I didn’t stop running until I got to the doors.
"Thank you (gasp) so (gasp) much" I smiled and winced in pain at my cracked lips. I inserted the dollar into the machine and waited for the driver to hand me my transfer. I turned around and sat in the first seat available, ignoring the crazy looks from the other passengers.
The bus ride was bumpy; my long, burgundy-tipped ponytail bounced all about my face irritating me. It kept tickling my face, creeping along my lips and getting stuck between both of my eyelids sending me into instant pain. I was grateful though because I was finally to be in warmth. The heat surrounded me, crawling up my legs, creeping up my arms and hugging me. It felt so good, and so comforting that it made up for the unskilled driver that seemed determined to ride in every pothole in the street. I rest my head against the glass watching the world around me. The streets were busy, even so early in the morning. I saw an old lady in her automatic wheelchair riding along the sidewalk and a young girl running with her dog across the street. Two little boys were wrestling in the car and that resulted in both of them getting pinched by their mother. I watched as the cars zoomed by, the birds as they flew in flocks, airplanes that drew white puffy designs in the air and everything else my eyes would fall upon. Finally we arrived at the bus station and I bundled myself back up, preparing to go back out into the freezing cold. As the glass doors open I took one last breath of heated air and darted into the coldness to the next bus. The wind whipped at my eyes drawing out tears as I ran to bus number five. I quickly stepped onto the bus rushing the driver my transfer ticket. She stared at me for awhile before she rolled her eyes and rudely snatched the ticket out of my hand. Then she looked at me with slanting eyes as if she was daring me to respond to her action. My first instinct was to give her a few tips on being respectful, but then I thought about how cold it was outside and decided to keep my mouth shut and sit down. The feeling of being disrespected was nothing worse than standing up for myself and being kicked off the bus.
I fell asleep on bus five. It was just something about the ride that rocked my body into a comfort zone. It was so warm, so heated and refreshing. The rude driver was very skilled at maneuvering the huge bus, I couldn’t tell the difference from us sitting still or the when the bus was moving. I clutched my black and gray Gucci purse tightly and dozed off. I would’ve missed my stop if it weren’t for the little old lady in front of me.
"Honey….honey wake up."
I opened my eyes and waited for them to adjust to the luminous lighting on the bus. I studied her face; she had hazel almond shaped eyes, with long eyelashes that curled perfectly at the ends. Her skin was a honey colored and her peppered hair had sprinkles of salt. It was pulled back into a ponytail and hung just below her shoulders.
"Are you up baby? Don’t miss your stop we’re coming to the school now."
My eyebrows rose in confusion and I guess she read my gesture because she pointed one bony finger to my chest. I glanced down and realized I had my Classic City Id tag on. I sighed and struggled to wake the rest of my body up from its slumber. I gave her a crooked smile and murmured thanks to her, and she smiled in return and nodded her head. I reached over and pulled the line, signaling the driver that I wanted to get off. As the bus slowed to a stop, I grabbed my books, told the lady thanks again and got off.
Once again I faced the cold bitterness as I walked across the parking lot. As I stepped into the bricked structured school, I glanced at the glass windows that made up the outside walls. I stared at the reflection and realized my hair looked awful. I ran my hand across my ponytail to smooth out some of the crinkles. When I realize that my hands weren’t helping the situation I whispered a curse word at the inconvenience and stepped into the school. As I entered the secretary smiled and offered a cheery hello. I smirked and wondered what could possibly have her so happy. As I walked into the classroom I prepared myself for another long day….

The Rationalists
The Rationalists
#1) The Rationalists were a group of people who believed in the theory that an individual's actions and beliefs should be based on reason, rather than on intuition or the teachings of others. They were people who formed opinions by reasoning instead of because someone said so. They believed everything had a logical explanation and felt as if it was their duty to provide it. They believed in God, but they didn’t believe he had the say in everything. They knew he created the universe but it was up to the people to find out everything you didn’t know. Nothing happened just because; there was always a logical explanation. They were based on evidence.
On the other hand, the Puritans beliefs were all basically based upon someone’s thoughts and opinions. The Puritans felt man was evil, and God was the only one who did everything to perfection. They felt if the river by your house suddenly produced nothing but contaminated inedible fish, then you had done something to upset god and he was punishing you. They believed God had the supreme authority over all human affairs.
The main difference between the Puritans and Rationalists is in their view of mankind. While the Rationalists felt man was both good and bad. Puritans thought men were all evil. Rationalists felt that man could improve himself with education; Puritans thought you could improve only if god wanted you to. To Rationalists the intelligence of man was limitless. To puritans you are only what god chose you to be. With rationalists more importance was given to scientific reasoning and less to God's wrath. A modern day example of these two would be the September 11th crisis. The Puritans would say it was because God no longer wanting that type of business to be around so he sent his people out to destroy it. Those people didn’t do anything wrong because they were just following God’s word; the Rationalists would probably break it all the way down saying that we weren’t cooperating with other countries, and we upset them and in result they took action and did what they felt was right.
#3) The way Ben Franklin made goals for himself to improve himself shows he was a Rationalists. He knew that he was not perfect, but there were ways to improve his imperfection; and so he wrote out all the logical things he could work on to fix him. "..but to fix it on one of them at a time; and, when I should be master of that, then to proceed to another and so on….".
#4)
Patience- learn to take your time with everything
Silence-everything is not meant to be said.
Serenity-learn to accept things as they are
Sincerity-always
Humble-
Excitement-live to the fullest…you never know
Chastity-never use sex as a payback, nor to hold on to something that’s not good for you
Order-have goals… they actually help
Money-money is a must
Justice-do unto others as you would want done unto you
I believe that if I follow these virtues I would reach happiness. I think everything on my list is very important and if I was to alter just one of them, my over all goal of happiness wouldn’t be reached. Each one of these virtues are connected in a way so that they feed off of each other and helps increase each others importance. If I had to choose the most important one it would probably be serenity.
#5)
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal- the Rationalists didn’t believe that God chose certain people to be higher than one from start.
That whenever any form of government becomes destructive to these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new government- it was up to the people to determined their own lives. If something went wrong with the government we, as the people, have the right to alter it so that it can correctly govern. Its not left in God’s hands.
He has plundered our seas, ravaged our coasts, burned our towns, and destroyed the lives of our people.-the interest was of the people, it was up to the people to keep the people happy.

Puritans
The Puritans
#1) The puritans believed that the bible was a good book and that it was necessary to read it as well as understand it. They also believed that a person’s individual life was nothing but a journey to salvation. However they believed that there were people who were chosen as leaders by god, and thought those certain people was chosen out of the whole crowd as the few whom were going to heaven; Because according to the puritans Christ died for those people only and not anyone else. They believed that since Adam and Eve sinned and they were the first humans on earth that everyone is automatically born sinful.
#2) I feel almost as if, the preachers in those times felt as if they preached because they had to. Like they didn’t feel the sermon as much as they should’ve. Directional text evidence would be, "After its initial presentation, the audience was so moved that many attendees were found openly weeping. There were also a number of reports of swooning, outcries, and convulsions from audience members. It was also reported that, unlike the stereotype of fire and brimstone preaching, Edwards read the sermon in a monotone voice with his eyes fixated on the church bellrope, and actually asked the audience to quiet down so he might finish his sermon."
Their life might have even been boring simply because they lived with the fact knowing that they were not one of the chosen to go to heaven; so I would imagine they lived life in fear of dying and going to hell. Their pastor preached upon ways how God would take them out of their life. He basically told them God had no mercy towards them and he would do just about anything to put them in the places they deserve to be depending on how they were living their lives down on earth.
Also in the Plymouth Plantation the Puritans believed that the god had brought them to safe land, which is an example of their faith. They knew the seas were fast and furious but they believed that god would protect them and keep them safe. Their faith increased even more when God also helped them to over-come starvation and harsh weather after arriving to the new land. Also almost all the religious sermons were based on Manifest Destiny, which is the belief that God tells you what to do and you do it with no problem (ex: moving out west and killing all the Indians for their land). John Winthrop taught his listeners to carry on God's mission and to set an example for the rest of the world. The sermons also helped warn the Puritans of Backsliding, which is the belief that Satan attacks the holy believers and they fall to his plans and become a sinner all over again. To prevent this, believers were expected not to become smug, to perform constant soul-searching, be thoughtful and kind and pray constantly.
#3) *Their judgement was already set no matter how much good or bad they actually did. If you were one of god’s chosen to go to hell, then you were going no matter what you did. "The wrath of God burns against them, their damnation does not slumber; the pit is prepared, the fire is made ready, the furnace is now hot, ready to receive them; the flames do now rage and glow."
*The belief that since Adam and Eve messed up in the beginning, everyone is born sinful. "God has laid himself under no obligation, by any promise to keep any natural man out of hell one moment."
* The Belief of Irresistible Grace.
"The arrows of death fly unseen at noon-day; the sharpest sight cannot discern them. God has so many different unsearchable ways of taking wicked men out of the world and sending them to hell. There is nothing that God had need to be at the expense of a miracle, or go out of the ordinary course of his providence, to destroy any wicked man, at any moment."
#4) I think they wrote in this style because they were depressed. They had to deal with the belief stating that their destiny was chosen for them already. So lets say Tim is a puritan, and Tim attends their religious meetings faithfully. Tim gives back to the environment at all costs never once has Tim been known to act against the "word". But Tim judgement is that he’s going to hell. Despite all that Tim did, he still in fact will attend the gates of hell when he dies.
Lets look at Bob, Bob is the worst puritan possible. Bob drinks, and stays out all night rather than attending the religious meetings. Bob curses and laughs at everyone when they try to warn him of Irresistible Faith. See Bob knows his judgement, he is one of the chosen to be in heaven. By knowing this Bob gets to act out and have the time of his life. Because according to his religion despite whatever he does Bob will be accepted into the pearly gates of Heaven.
A blind man can see that those judgements are too wrong and because of that I feel Puritans couldn’t possibly live a healthy, stress-free life. I could imagine they were constantly nagged by the fact that they were either going to Heaven or Hell and that they had to watch out for the Irresistible Faith and at the same time for Backsliding.

Introducing....Leslie-Ann
Hey!
I'm 17 years old and very outgoing. I used to attend Cedar Shoals, but i absolutely hated that school. The rules were ignorant. I have 3 brothers and 1 sister that live in Athens, and 5 brothers and 2 sisters that live in the Virgin Islands. My whole family excluding my generation was born in the B.V.I( The British Virgin Islands) so I am a Caribbean descendant. I love to dance, and listening to music is one of my favorite hobbies. I love all types of music. I consider myself open-minded, I love learning about new cultures. I hope to graduate from Classic City High in this current year(2007). After that I plan on attending college and receiving my RN nursing degree. Although I don't have any of my own,I love babies!!!! School is now....Money is the future.
